The software dotProject is an open source type project management tool which is supported and managed, developed, maintained and supported by a group of volunteers and users themselves. It is free to download.
It is available in almost 35 languages. First build 2.1.1 was added on 14 November, 2007 in file size 28Kb by author Karen C. It has been designed to have project layout along with control functions. Structuring of a series of tasks and concerning schedules is carried out to have a useful outcome.
On installation, core module containing almost all the applications, gets installed. These applications are supported by Dev team. Add-on modules are maintained separately. The core modules have bare minimum modules, all inter-related. These bare minimum modules are backup module to create XML backup of database, Calendar module to provide functionality and date viewing of tasks, Companies to group projects, tasks and users. Contact module helps to have contact records, Departments to group elements like users at that level using filters, Files module to store files of the project.
Forum module provides facility for creating forums for particular projects and to record proceedings. JpGraph provides support Gantt Charts at the individual project and for all project levels. History module for log of changes, Link module for recording frequently used links, Report module for moving reports in version 3.x, Resources module to add non-human points in project are provided.
Project module is element within which work is done. Smart search module works in all modules. System Administration, tasks, user administration are other necessary modules to assist in functioning of software.
Project managers are at liberty to find out which application suits to them most but this tool is definitely for managing tasks, schedules, sharing and communication. Add it to your machine.
